However, for larger perforations, surgical intervention is the only solution. The surgery is called a Tympanoplasty or Myringoplasty. This is all the more important in premature births, cases where the pregnant mother had any infections and cases of family history of hearing loss. It is harvested through a small incision made in the thigh.
